IODA Website Privacy Summary

The International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of sailors, parents, officials, volunteers, and partners worldwide.

IODA processes personal data in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Danish data protection law.

What data we collect

We may collect and process personal data such as:

• Names, contact details, nationality, and age/date of birth

• Parent or legal guardian contact information

• Event registration and participation details

• Limited medical or safeguarding information where required for safety

• Competition results and rankings

Special care is taken when processing data relating to minors.

Why we use your data

Your data is used to:

• Manage event entries and class membership

• Organise championships and international events

• Ensure safety, safeguarding, and medical support

• Communicate with sailors, parents, clubs, and federations

• Publish official race results and class information

Sharing with event partners and suppliers

Where necessary, IODA may share limited personal data with:

• Event organisers and host authorities

• National Class Associations and Member National Authorities

• Boat builders, sailmakers, and other approved manufacturers or suppliers,
  solely for class administration, equipment compliance, event support, or class-related activities

• IT and digital service providers operating under GDPR-compliant contracts

IODA does not permit suppliers or manufacturers to use personal data for independent marketing purposes.

International events

As an international class, some events take place outside the EU/EEA.
Where personal data is transferred internationally, IODA applies appropriate legal safeguards and data-protection measures.
